Unsupported and virtually weightless:
Nautilus Stairs creates a sculptural masterpiece and veneer to create a sculptural masterpiece

Bonn/Zeulenroda-Triebes. It's hard to believe when you look at the photos: this spiral staircase is made of solid steel and has been extensively finished with the finest walnut veneer. Responsible for the sculptural and timeless masterpiece is the company Nautilus from Zeulenroda-Triebes, a veneer supplier from near Dresden provided the noble veneer coating.

Already when entering the room is noticeable: This is not a "normal" spiral staircase. On the one hand, it floats a few centimeters above the floor, and on the other, the refined curved shape and the walnut veneer applied to the steps and the outer walls in the highest perfection are a real eye-catcher. "The staircase, which we designed and built as a steel structure, seems to unfold weightlessly in the living room of the private house in Hanover, swinging upwards towards the roof exit. At the same time it is incredibly present and invites not only to enter but also to look at", says Nautilus managing director Bastian Militzer and continues: "In cooperation with architects, planners and designers we have built a unique spiral staircase, which impresses with perfect harmony. The overall appearance of this staircase shows high standards of design, engineering spirit, highest quality of selected materials and perfection in steel stair construction." In addition to the walnut veneer, which was processed by Danzer Germany from Kesselsdorf, the staircase, which was designed by Ganter Interior from Waldkirch and created in a dynamic spiral look, also impresses with the inner sides of the staircase stringers, which are covered with light-colored suede. "The staircase, which looks as if it has grown from one piece, is a beautiful example of modern craftsmanship in this industry," finds Ursula Geismann, managing director of Initiative Furnier + Natur (IFN) and a longtime trend analyst. "And it is further proof that veneer is an absolutely promising and highly topical material that is more than a match for other surfaces due to its naturalness and individuality." IFN/DS

Initiative Veneer + Nature (IFN) The Initiative Furnier + Natur (IFN) e.V. was founded in 1996 by the German veneer industry and its partners. Today it is supported by European companies from the veneer industry, the trade and the veneer processing industry as well as trade associations of the wood industry. The aim of the association is to promote veneer as a natural all-round material.
